Turks & Caicos Blues
The bluest of blue waters that I have ever seen…….Flying into Providenciales International Airport as the ocean meets the sand was a water color canvas for the eyes.
For this adventure we rented a home on Chalk Sound, which is about 10 minutes South of the airport and 20 minutes to the famous Grace Bay Beach area. Grace Bay Car Rental pick up was a breeze. A short walk across the street from the terminal, a few minutes for paperwork, top down and off we went in our Jeep. Driving around the island was fairly easy. The roads were in good condition with ample width and signage. But you do have to remember to drive on the left side of the roadway as you are in a British Territory.
The house we chose was Ponte del Sogno, which we booked through Island Escapes Turks & Caicos. On this adventure we traveled with family friends who share the same joy of exploring new places as we do. The view from the house was unmatched! Large patio area with pool, several seating areas and a cabana (never knew we needed a cabana until now!) We spent a lot of time swimming in the pool, soaking up the sun and enjoying happy hours and sunset cocktails. There were stairs to get in and out of the ocean right from the property. We (kids and adults) enjoyed swimming and bouncing around in the waves during the heat of the day. The poolside bedrooms were fun and the main house bedroom had a delightful outdoor shower. The house fit nine of us without feeling cramped. If someone wanted some more space, there was an additional one bedroom guesthouse on the property.
We spent one afternoon at Grace Bay beach. The beach stretches as far as you can see. There are plenty of resorts and hotels on this stretch of beach. The sand is soft and there is a nice gradual slop into the water. We brought our own beach accessories but there are chairs for rent if needed. We had lunch beachside at “The Deck” restaurant on the Seven Seas Resort property.
During another outing, we visited Taylor Bay and Sapodilla beaches. Both were unique and a fun experience in itself. A quick walk from our house brought us to Taylor Bay during low tide. It was neat to walk far into the bay and have the water come up only to your knees. This area is chill and relaxing with only a few people on the entire beach. A late afternoon swim brought us to Sapodilla Beach. This beach was busy and full of excitement. Great music, jet ski rentals, chair rentals, food and drinks to purchase from the local beach shacks. Great atmosphere if you are looking for some fun and a little beach party. Below is the quiet beach and waters of Taylor Bay, just a five minute walk from our home.
As on most islands, food can be a little expensive. To ease into vacation, we had preordered food and drinks to stock the house for few days. We later ventured out and found the local Sunny Foods grocery store. They had what we needed at fair prices with a few small improvises. We ended up stumbling upon the Fresh Fish Market, which was about ten minutes from our rental house. For three days we headed off to the market at 3 o’clock to see what was caught fresh that day. One day was too windy so there was nothing. The other two days provided amazing catches with fresh lobster and grouper to bring home and cook. Ohhh the price? Four dollars per pound for the lobster tail.
Great food and drinks with a fun beach atmosphere! We also had a great time at Da Conch Shack…..yes, you do need to order the Conch Fritters!
This adventure was truly to recharge the batteries and escape for awhile. The island is perfect for sun, beach, pool, relax and repeat.
