Travel in the Genes

I was introduced to travel around middle school age. My father would take a month off work in the summer and my family would pile into the minivan dubbed “The barn on wheels” and take off. One year we traveled Canada and the East Coast, another year we traveled down the West Coast and central U.S. Of course we took a family trip to Florida to have our Walt Disney World adventure.

To see how big, beautiful and diverse this country is left a lasting impression on me. Even today, I can close my eyes and think back to the great memories of family, the sights we saw and a few travel mishaps that we encountered along the way. It is still a fun and funny topic of conversation for my family when we get together!

Amanda also had similar road trip adventures growing up. She can remember the family van being packed and repacked several times the night before leaving. She recalls fun family road trips camping, skiing in Colorado and traveling to Mexico. One lasting memory she has is a pair of “glowing” socks her dad wore while on the rides at Disney World.
